Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is home to over a century of images
captured by world-renown photographers. This unique collection of
historic, documentary and fine art photographs is comprised of over
57,000 images housed in the Main Library in Oakland.
The collection includes the Pittsburgh Photographic Library, a
three-year project commissioned in the early 1950's by the
Allegheny Conference on Community Development to document Pittsburgh's
renaissance. From steel mills to hospitals to urban renewal, the
collection captured the city in a state of change. Among the many
fine photographers participating in this project under the leadership
of Roy Stryker were Clyde Hare, Esther Bubley, Elliott Erwitt and
Harold Corsini.
The photographic collection of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh also
includes the Bingaman collection, extensive examples of the work
of Luke Swank and numerous smaller collections highlighting important
Western Pennsylvania places, significant milestones and extraordinary
people.

are available, unframed in a variety of sizes or matted and framed
for display.
